Where adventure is told in music, and melodies become memories

Matt Frequencies will guide you through a musical adventure told in rave-ready remixes of video game music and Matt Frequencies originals, weaved with rave classics ranging from trance to gabber and drum n bass – and even into metal.

Your mission:

Travel the lands to collect the chapters of The Book of Divergence and use it to access the Fortress of Bass, the thundering heart of Rhythmos!

As you proceed through the land, you have choices – both where to go, and how to deal with situations you encounter. You’ll be rewarded either way, but your choices will affect your options later on…

Adventure

You will explore areas such as the Hills of Rave, the Stormy Sands of Trance, the Jungle of Amen or the Forest of Acid, and in each you will find a greater lord of genre waiting to challenge you in unique ways. As you visit Tympanos, the city of trees, beware of distractions in the entertainment district and cursed beasts in the sewers!

Encounters

Encounters will be run using the giant inflatable rave dice – the Rave Number Generator. Sometimes you may need to achieve a score threshold, sometimes you may need to roll specific numbers – and sometimes you may need to keep the dice aloft for a length of time! Failure is always possible and may result in unexpected outcomes.

Resolution

Completing encounters will reward you with loot – real, physical items you can hold during the show that grant powers. Currency, for the shop, save discs to protect against bad luck in rolls in future encounters, and much more. Everything has a purpose, so if you collect items – don’t leave early! You may endanger the fate of Rhythmos!

Lore

The land of Rhythmos

In the home of the Rave, Rhythmos, dark forces stir.

Once peacefully united, the peoples of the land stand fractured, convinced to follow paths that go against their true calling. Genre police roam the city streets to ensure dissenters are kept in line, and the true melody of the Rave hides atop a mountain, outcast.

Deep in the forest, on the border of the jungle, the sisters of acid plot – but is it for the benefit of all, or a few?

On the beach, the land of the crab stands beseiged by an unnatural storm of sand, and out on the water, dangers greater still.

In the City, once proud bastion of Peace, Love and Unity, the districts are raising walls, blocking access to communal spaces, and even the Church of Bass has fallen under the sway of a megalomaniacal pastor.

It is said that only those capable of wielding the true power of the Rave, those capable of seeing past genre boundaries, will be able to free the land… 

Biomes

The are many paths that can be taken on your quest to Save the Rave. Music selection is tailored to evoke the feelings of each biome and the encounters within them.

Transportation

On the paths between locations, options for transport arise – on foot, a familiar feathered friend, or motorised monstrosities.

Explore the city

The main hub of adventure, where quests await, intrigue lurks – and perhaps, given the right situation, romance…

Out in the wilds

High atop a chilly mountain, a familiar voice echoes with the wind. In the forest, the sisters of acid stir their pot, and on the water… pirates await…

The Otherside

The endgame areas, where the dark forces responsible for the corruption of Rhythmos lurk. A blasted castle, twisted dimensions, or a gateway to hell…

The Aspects of Divergence

Powerful figures that the DJ embodies to Save the Rave. Each with their own musical styles, from garage and drum n bass to metal, and their own agendas – and they will try to sway the crowd to their paths!

Which aspect is in control alters the options available – lawful good/negotiation options may be unavailable if a chaotic Aspect is in control!

More aspects may develop over time in response to events that occur!

Father Mathew

  • Lawful Good, seeker of justice.
  • Trance, Euphoric Rock, and Happy Hardcore

Brother Seth

Encounter Guide

Encounter Types

Encounters are used to change the direction of the rave. These are your key opportunities to save or doom the fate of the Rave.

The four main encounter types are Creatures, Bosses, Diplomacy and Skill. What these encounters require of you and their difficulty will vary depending on which Aspect of Divergence is in control at the time. 

Don’t forget to utilise your inventory and class affinities to bolster your chances!

Creatures

You may be called on for a basic dice roll, a coin flip or a competitive game of chance

Bosses

The dark masters require team effort – a chant, singalong, unified dancing, even a conga line – it’s up to YOU to decide how to deal with these!

Diplomacy

Encounters may enlist allies to the cause, sway the DJ, or alter the paths available in ways even the DM cannot predict!

Skill

Skill checks may be called when attempting heroic feats, such as surviving the insanity of the tower!
